Ozet
New York'a zarar veren ufak meteor parçalarından sonra NASA dünyaya hızla yaklaşmakta olan büyük bir meteor tespit eder. Teksas büyüklüğündeki bu meteoru zararsız hale getirmek için bir plan yapılır. Meteora ulaşılacak ve 250 metre derinlikte bir kazı yapılarak merkezine nükleer patlayıcı yerleştirilecektir. İşin başına konunun uzmanı Harry Stamper getirilir. Harry 10 gün gibi kısa bir zamanda astronotları eğitemeyeceğini söyler ve göreve kendi ekibini dahil eder. Plan başarılı olursa meteor ikiye ayrılacak ve dünyanın iki yanından, zarar vermeden geçip uzaklaşacaktır.
