Ozet
Eşinden ayrıldıktan sonra yeniden normal hayatına dönmeye çalışan Rachel Watson, her gün işe giderken bindiği trenle eski kocasıyla bir zamanlar birlikte yaşadığı, şimdi ise eski kocasının yeni ailesiyle birlikte yaşamayı sürdürdüğü evin önünden geçmektedir. Her seferinde aynı acıyı tekrar yaşamamak adına eve yakın başka bir evde yaşayan Megan Hipwell ve Scott Hipwell çiftini dikkatle izlemeye, onların hayatlarıyla ilgili kendince yorumlar yapmaya başlar. Yine bir gün trenle oradan geçerken çok kötü bir şeye tanık olur. Ertesi sabah uyandığında geceye dair hiçbir şey hatırlamaz ve televizyonda Megan'ın kaybolduğunu öğrenir. Rachel hem Megan'ın akibetini hem de kendisinin o gece nerede ne yaptığını öğrenmek isteyecektir.
