Ozet
Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nin 2. Dünya Savaşı'na girmesinin ardından Desmond T. Doss da birçok Amerikalı gibi orduya katılmaya gönüllü olur. Ancak dindar bir Hristiyan ve bir pasifist olan Doss, savaşta insan öldürmeyi ve herhangi bir şekilde silah kullanmayı reddetmektedir, onun yerine savaş alanında yaralıları kurtararak hizmet etmek istemektedir. Bu tavrı hem komutanları hem de asker arkadaşları arasında ilk başta çok sert tepkiyle karşılanır, askeri mahkemeye bile çıkar. Ancak Doss, son derece sert bir eğitimden geçip kendi hayatı pahasına silahsız bir şekilde savaş alanına gitmeyi çoktan göze almıştır.

Out of all the films nominated for best picture, there is one that isn’t getting much attention at all.
