Ozet
Ucuz western romanları yazan Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten), kendisine iş teklif eden dostunu görmek üzere savaş-sonrası Viyanasına gelir. Ancak arkadaşının öldürüldüğünü öğrenir ve bir anda kendisini cinayet soruşturmasının içinde bulur... Olayı gören kişilerle konuşan ve dostunun tanıdıklarına olay anını anlattıran Martins, bir süre sonra olayda bir "üçüncü adam" olduğunun farkına varır.
